Welcome to St Athanasios, Monastery
About the Monastery
The historic Monastery of Saint Athanasios of Zikovista is located in the mountainous region of Voio, between the prefectures of Kozani and Kastoria.
From its foundation in 1629 until its burning by Bulgarian komitadjis in 1905, it served as an important spiritual center, offering much to the wider region.
During the years of its abandonment, only the monumental katholikon remained intact, its interior fully adorned with remarkable frescoes. In 2011, by the care of the late Metropolitan Paul of Sisani and Siatista, a small community of nuns settled in the Monastery, dedicating themselves to the work of its restoration.
At the Monastery operates the iconography workshop “Byzantine Workshop of Zikovista,” which undertakes the iconographic decoration of churches with wall frescoes, works on canvas, as well as the painting of portable icons and other liturgical objects for private or public use.
Iconography Workshop
The sister’s support themselves and their ministries through their iconography. Their workshop produces large, hand-painted canvases for churches and iconostasis, custom made, hand-painted iconography, as well as original mounted icon prints and handmade decorations available for sale through the monastery giftshop.
